The arrest and detention of Alireza Doroudi, an Iranian doctoral student at the University of Alabama, by immigration authorities is deeply concerning. As a valued member of the campus community pursuing higher education, his detainment raises serious questions about the motives behind this action. While the specific reasons for his arrest are unclear, the targeting of international students like Doroudi, who appear to pose no threat, is unacceptable and counterproductive. A fair and transparent process must be followed to prevent unjustified disruptions to students' academic pursuits. I urge you to investigate this case thoroughly, ensure Doroudi's rights are protected, and address any potential overreach or mishandling by the authorities involved. International students enrich our institutions of learning and should be able to focus on their studies without fear of unwarranted detention.
