You Want to Legislate Christianity? Then Live It.

To: Rep. Dean, Gov. Abbott, Sen. Hughes, Lt. Gov. Patrick

From: A verified voter in Kilgore, TX

April 1

You say you want to protect “Texas values” by banning profanity in films made in our state. But I have to ask: Is that really the problem? Because from where I’m standing, Texas has much bigger sins to answer for than an “F-bomb” in a movie. We are a state that: • Leaves millions without healthcare while calling ourselves “pro-life.” • Leads the nation in child poverty and teen pregnancy, while preaching “family values.” • Starves public education, ranks high in illiteracy, and still dares to talk about “personal responsibility.” • Promotes Christianity at every microphone, but abandons the actual teachings of Christ — the healing, the mercy, the justice, the humility. Texas doesn’t need moral theater. We need moral courage. You can clean up a film script, but it won’t cleanse the conscience of a government that punishes the poor, neglects the sick, and values image over impact. As Jesus said: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40) Jesus didn’t care about language. He cared about love. He didn’t censor art — he confronted power, lifted up the poor, defended the outcast, and called out religious hypocrisy. Today, they’d call him woke. And let’s be honest — he was crucified for it. If Texas lawmakers want to legislate Christianity, then they need to actually read the Bible — and start living by Christ’s terms, not political ones. Stop pretending morality lives in movie dialogue. It lives in how we treat the weak, the broken, the poor, and the different. If “Texas values” are real, then let’s prove it — not by what we say, but by who we serve.
