I am writing to express my support for federal library funding and to stand against the Executive Order cutting funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
This Order would have disastrous effects for communities nationwide, including across Georgia, where libraries are strong partners in everything the state does, from strengthening early literacy to building a strong economy.
Funding from IMLS enables Georgia Public Library Service, as the state library administrative agency, to provide services to all Georgia public libraries. Leveraging federal dollars on a statewide scale ensures all Georgians have access to the same high-quality library programming and services, no matter where they live. IMLS dollars also fund the Georgia Library for the Blind at Print Disabled, so that all can read, as well as PINES, the statewide lending network, and the Summer Reading Program.
In FY2024, Georgia expended $5,167,570 in federal funding to expand learning resources, increase access to information, and provide lendable technology for individuals of all ages.
I urge you to please support funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services to ensure these programs can continue to benefit communities across the country.
