I’m writing to urge you to support Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s participation in the multistate lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s attempt to deny birthright citizenship to children born in the U.S. based on their parents’ immigration status. This executive order directly threatens the rights and well-being of children. It would create a class of stateless minors—denying them citizenship, access to basic services, and protection under the law. No child born on U.S. soil should face uncertainty about their legal status or future. Attorney General Nessel is taking a vital stand to protect vulnerable children from a reckless and unconstitutional policy. Her leadership in this lawsuit helps ensure that our country honors the promise of the 14th Amendment and the fundamental principle that all children born here are equal under the law.
