I’ve listened to arguments justifying what Schumer and 9 other senate democrats did on Friday and, I must say, I’m unconvinced. While it’s true that it may have empowered Trump and Musk in the short term to shut down the government, this does nothing but demoralize constituents, who have been the bulk of the resistance to this coup. The optics are terrible. We could have made the case that republicans, who control all 3 branches of government, own this crisis—because they do. We’ve seen this same story before. Democrats kind of talk a big game but fold at the first sign of straits. It’s been happening since 2016. You know who else has been leading democrats in the senate since then? Chuck Schumer. He has to go. We need people who will fight for our rights, who will draw a line in the sand and stick to their guns. People will be hurt, but that is inevitable with Trump and Musk in charge of the executive branch. We cannot be complicit in their power grab. I am well aware, Mr. Cohen, that you are a member of the house but I need you to hear my concerns and relay them to all elected officials you come into contact with in the Democratic Party. We cannot keep using the same tactics. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
