I urge opposition to any legislation that would criminalize or restrict mask wearing, including the proposed anti-mask bills in the New York state budget. Masking is a vital protective tool, especially for immunocompromised and other vulnerable individuals. These laws disproportionately endanger already marginalized groups and invite biased enforcement. There is no evidence that mask restrictions enhance public safety - instead, they foster stigma, harassment, and a chilling effect on civil liberties. New Yorkers must be able to protect themselves and exercise their rights without fear of unfair targeting or retaliation. I request a firm stance against anti-mask measures in the interest of preserving public health and human rights.
