Russia has a consistent pattern of violating ceasefire agreements and using temporary pauses in fighting to regroup, resupply, and launch new offensives. History shows that Russia cannot be trusted to uphold its commitments to cease hostilities, as it has repeatedly broken promises of ceasefires dating back to 2014 in the Donbas region. The proposed 30-day ceasefire risks allowing Russia to regain strength before resuming its onslaught against Ukraine. Russia's deceptive tactics and disregard for agreements aimed at protecting civilians raise serious doubts about its intentions, suggesting the ceasefire may only serve Moscow's military interests rather than facilitate a path towards lasting peace. A temporary respite could provide Russia an opportunity to rearm and prepare for further aggression against Ukraine's sovereignty.
