Demand to Save Social Security and Prevent Systematic Sabotage

To: Rep. Brown, Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted

From: A constituent in Cleveland, OH

March 11

I am writing to demand immediate action to protect and strengthen Social Security. The recent firings of key personnel and deliberate underfunding of the SSA are setting up the system for failure. This intentional mismanagement, spearheaded by the Musk-backed team, falsely claims overstaffing at a time when SSA is already operating with the lowest number of employees in 50 years. If these actions are allowed to continue, SS will be forced into collapse, opening the door for privatization of a system that was originally designed to be self-sustaining. SS Was Created to Be Self-Sufficient. Social Security was established under the Social Security Act of 1935 (Public Law No. 74-271), which created a worker-funded retirement insurance program to ensure Americans had income security after years of contributions. It was never meant to be a burden on the federal budget but a self-sustaining program funded by payroll taxes under Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) taxes (26 U.S. Code § 3101-3128). Additionally, the Social Security Amendments of 1939, 1956, and 1965 expanded benefits for spouses, dependents, and disabled individuals, making it a vital safety net for millions of Americans. Any attempts to undermine or dismantle SSA threaten the well-being of retirees, disabled workers, and their families—people who have spent their entire working lives paying into this system. If SS is allowed to collapse, the federal government must answer: 1.Will the federal government reimburse workers for every dollar paid into SS, Medicare, and Medicaid? If these programs are taken away, the billions collected from workers over decades must be returned to them immediately. 2.Will payroll tax deductions for these programs cease? If the government refuses to uphold its end of the deal, it must stop deducting money from workers' paychecks for benefits they will never receive. 3.How will the government provide for the millions of seniors, disabled Americans, and survivors who rely on these benefits? Stripping away benefits without a clear replacement plan is economic sabotage. The reality is that SS does not need to be "fixed" by privatization. The real problem is that Congress and past administrations have borrowed from SS funds and never fully repaid them. The trust fund has been used as a cushion for general government spending rather than being properly reinvested into the program as intended. I demand that you publicly commit to protecting Social Security, restoring SSA staffing, and ensuring repayment of borrowed funds. Congress must represent the people, not billionaire-backed privatization efforts. If you fail to act, you will be directly responsible for the financial devastation of millions of retirees, disabled workers, and families. I expect a formal response outlining your position on Social Security, the actions you will take to protect it, and your plan for repaying borrowed funds. The American people are watching.
