I’m writing today to ask you to oppose HF13, Shoot First Legislation when it comes to the House floor for a vote. This law would not make our communities safer. It would encourage unnecessary violence and harm us all. Minnesota has long taken public safely seriously and upheld the principle that deadly force should only be used when absolutely necessary. This Shoot First law would remove the duty to de-escalate conflict and would increase gun homicides across our state, as these laws have done in every state they've been enacted in. We should be focused on evidence-based violence prevention strategies, not policies that would make our district more unsafe. I urge you to vote NO on this dangerous, unnecessary Shoot First legislation."
