Time to enact checks and balances on the president’s tariffs

To: Rep. Dexter, Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley

From: A constituent in Portland, OR

April 2

The president announced his new tariff plans today and I want to remind Congress that it’s actually not the president’s role to enact tariffs. They must be approved by Congress. I urge you at this time to put pressure on your Republican colleagues to take back the power that Congress actually has and stop capitulating to this madman who is trying to play king. That is not his right and it’s not his role. It is your job to represent the people and stand up for what is right for us. “We the people” can stop this, but you are our representatives in the system. So it’s not fair for you to keep urging us to raise our voices. Our voices are loud and clear. It is your job now to put checks on the executive branch. It is literally your job to do that.
