I am writing to express grave concern over the escalating threats, intimidation, and calls for impeachment against federal judges—tactics that are being used to undermine judicial independence and dismantle the separation of powers.
While I may not always agree with the decisions of these judges, I firmly believe that Congress must stand in defense of the judiciary—regardless of party alignment. The judicial and legislative branches must work together to hold the executive branch in check. That is how our democracy functions. That is what Trump and Musk are trying to destroy.
By threatening judges with violence and impeachment for rulings they dislike, Trump and his allies are making it clear: they do not want checks and balances, they want total control. The courts must remain free from political coercion, and Congress has a duty to protect them from authoritarian attacks.
I urge you to:
1. Publicly condemn threats against federal judges and affirm the judiciary’s independence.
2. Take legislative action to increase protections for judges facing harassment and violence.
3. Hold hearings to expose and counteract efforts to dismantle judicial oversight.
This is bigger than partisanship. This is about defending the rule of law and preventing the executive branch from becoming a dictatorship. I implore you to act before it’s too late.
