I am writing in strong support of the urgent warnings shared by Dr. Mary Anne Franks in her recent testimony on the so-called “CENSORSHIP-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX.” Her words cut through the political noise to expose a dangerous reality: this administration is enacting the most AGGRESSIVE ASSAULT on the First Amendment in modern American history—while claiming to be its savior.
The idea that powerful political figures are “silenced” is a GASLIGHTING NARRATIVE. Meanwhile, the President of the United States is reportedly surveilling, detaining, and deporting lawful residents because of their SPEECH. He is telling schools what they can teach, businesses what values they may express, and individuals what words they’re allowed to say. He has called for journalists and dissenters to be JAILED or ASSAULTED. This is not the posture of a democratic leader—it’s the behavior of a man attempting to place himself ABOVE THE LAW.
Dr. Franks is absolutely right to point out that true free speech includes criticism, research, and even protest—especially against those in power. The First Amendment protects us from government suppression, not from disagreement or public accountability. Equating criticism with censorship is not only intellectually dishonest—it’s a direct threat to DEMOCRACY.
I urge you to listen to these concerns. Defend the right to speak, dissent, report, and resist without fear of retaliation from our own government.
