The executive branch's attempt to impeach federal judges solely for issuing rulings against the administration's agenda poses a grave threat to judicial independence and the system of checks and balances. Chief Justice Roberts rightly condemned these calls as an
"extraordinary display of conflict" and reaffirmed that "impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision." Judges must remain free to rule impartially based on the law and Constitution, without fear of retaliation from the other branches of government. The administration's frustration with court orders blocking controversial policies like mass deportations does not justify the drastic step of attempting to remove judges from the bench. The constitutionally-prescribed process exists to appeal unfavorable rulings through higher courts. Seeking impeachment because of disagreement with legal decisions dangerously undermines the judiciary's vital role. I urge you to firmly reject any efforts to impeach judges over their rulings and to forcefully defend the judiciary's ability to serve as an independent check on the executive branch. Preserving this fundamental principle of separation of powers is essential for protecting our democratic system of government. Uphold the checks and balances!
