Repeal the Alien Enemies Act!

To: Rep. Houlahan, Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman

From: A verified voter in Downingtown, PA

March 19

Repeal the Alien Enemies Act. As reported by the Brennan Center for Justice, the Alien Enemies Act is too broad and invites abuse. The abuse is no longer merely a possibility; it has happened with an Executive Order invoking it on March 14, 2025. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/invocation-of-the-alien-enemies-act-regarding-the-invasion-of-the-united-states-by-tren-de-aragua/ "Of course, the surest way to prevent abuse of the Alien Enemies Act — and to address its problematic reliance on ancestry — is through preemptive repeal. For decades, lawmakers on Capitol Hill have proposed measures to repeal or reconsider the Alien Enemies Act as a symbolic reparation for the internment of Japanese, German, and Italian noncitizens during World War II. Repealing the law would no longer be merely symbolic, given recent proposals to use it for mass deportations in peacetime. Indeed, repeal is crucial to preventing presidential overreach and safeguarding civil liberties." -- https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/policy-solutions/alien-enemies-act Congress must act to prevent such abuses as we are seeing now. "In the modern era, there is no plausible argument that relying on overbroad, identity-based measures like internment or expulsion under the Alien Enemies Act is necessary, even in wartime." -- https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/alien-enemies-act-explained Repeal the Alien Enemies Act! https://dl-rapidbot.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/attachments/1/ee56/77ba/ee5677ba-a6a1-43a9-a222-9f9da3964000.php
