Rumeysa Ozturk

To: Sen. Wyden, Rep. Bonamici, Sen. Merkley

From: A verified voter in Portland, OR

March 29

Yesterday, masked ICE agents apprehended a young student at Tufts University. Her name is Rumeysa Ozturk. Her crime? Writing an op ed that demanded that the administration address the violence being committed by the Israelis against Palestinians. There is no evidence that this young woman is a terrorist. They didn’t show her any identification. They handcuffed her. They basically terrorized her and then shipped her off to Louisiana. For what? Exercising her First Amendments rights! Once again, no due process. The poor woman was so frightened. How is it allowed in the United States of America that cruelty and imprisonment against the weakest among us is now policy? This has got to stop. If they can do this to people here from other countries that they disagree with, they can do it to any of us. This is just one example of innocent people being hauled off without due process. If this isn’t stopped, we can no longer say we are a nation of laws. Please stand up against this lawless behavior. If all of the horrendous actions of this regime, this is the most disturbing. Thank you.
