I am writing to express my deep concern regarding recent legislative efforts by some states to restrict or ban mRNA vaccines. According to a recent Axios article by Tina Reed (2025), states such as Iowa, Montana, and Idaho have introduced measures aimed at limiting the use of mRNA vaccine technology. In Iowa, for instance, a bill advanced that would fine providers up to $500 per dose, and in Idaho, proposals even aim to ban mRNA vaccines for 10 years. Such actions, driven by misinformation that mislabels these vaccines as gene-based or “gene therapy” products, threaten public health and undermine trust in science. Public health experts emphasize that mRNA vaccines do not alter DNA, and global studies confirm that their benefits—such as preventing severe disease and saving lives—far outweigh any risks. Restricting access to these vaccines risks not only stalling essential public health measures but also hindering critical research into innovative treatments for various diseases. I urge you to oppose these restrictive legislative measures and support policies that ensure access to safe, effective mRNA vaccines. Our nation’s ability to protect its citizens from future outbreaks and to remain a leader in biomedical innovation depends on evidence-based decision-making, not on unfounded fears. Thank you for your attention to this pressing issue. I look forward to your prompt action in defending public health and upholding the integrity of science-based policy.
