Resignations Warranted for Signal Security Breach by Officials

To: Rep. Trahan, Sen. Markey, Sen. Warren

From: A verified voter in Lowell, MA

March 27

The recent revelation of classified U.S. military strike plans being shared over an unsecured commercial messaging app is an unacceptable breach of national security protocols. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and others involved showed a blatant disregard for safeguarding sensitive information, jeopardizing not only operational security but also the lives of our service members. This gross negligence and violation of public trust warrants immediate consequences. I am calling for the resignations of Secretary Hegseth, National Security Advisor Waltz, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and all other officials who participated in the compromising Signal chat group. Their actions potentially violated laws like the Espionage Act and record-keeping requirements. Such a profound lapse in judgment from our nation's leadership regarding classified information cannot be tolerated. This incident represents one of the most egregious breaches of national security in recent history. Those responsible must be held accountable through their resignations at minimum, as they have forfeited the public's confidence in their ability to properly handle sensitive matters of national defense. Comprehensive investigations should also be conducted to examine the full extent of this security failure and ensure no further classified information was mishandled.
