Do you really care about US citizens? Your actions so far this year indicate you do not. The Trump administration and DOGE are eviscerating critical services for trivial and illusory savings. Eliminating or reducing these services will result in negligible budget impact but critically harm US citizens — including your constituents — and result in long-term costs to our economy: • The National Weather Service provides critical analysis and warning of severe weather events and long-term planning for agriculture • The Veterans Administration provides medical and mental health care, to veterans who bravely served this country’s interests. • The CDC and NIH protect us all by providing critical responses to pandemic disease, food contamination, and research into life-shortening issues such as cancer and heart disease. • The IRS investigates tax cheats and helps ensure our tax collections are timely and fair. Is there is fraud and abuse, cutting the IRS will only worsen it. • CISA protects our government computer systems from attack and provides guidance on how to better erect cyber defenses • The Social Security Administration ensures that the programs we have been contributing to throughout our working lives are functional and responsive. • Our intelligence agencies protect the country, the government, and companies from foreign espionage and theft. • The NSF, NIH, and other science agencies ensure that our national defense and economy have leading-edge technologies and personnel. • Our law enforcement agents, the DOJ, and Inspector Generals ensure the law is applied fairly and that actual waste, fraud, and abuse are investigated. • Our National Park Service ensures safe and lawful access to national resources enjoyed by many citizens and tourists to this country. • The list goes on. NONE of these should be being cut to the level they are. If anything, several of them should be expanded. The layoffs and cutbacks at all these agencies are being performed without understanding why those people and programs are in place or the long-term consequences. The result is not only gutting important programs but also discouraging dedicated and capable people from considering careers in government. This will make us a poorer country overall. Furthermore, these programs have already been examined by Congress and funded to perform their missions. Cutting them without congressional authorization is questionable legal and violates the separation of powers in the Constitution. IF YOU WANT TO ADDRESS BUDGET SHORTFALLS, MAKE THE BILLIONAIRES PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE!!! STOP CUTTING AID TO THE POOR, THE DISABLED, AND THE ELDERLY TO GIVE MORE TAX CUTS TO THE RICH! Represent your constituents. Grow a spine. Stop being a rubber stamp for destruction, and DO YOUR JOB!
