On March 13, 2025, Chuck Schumer and nine other Democratic senators sided with the Republican majority to vote "YES" on cloture for the House's fully partisan, non-negotiated Congressional Resolution, handing the executive branch a crucial victory in their ongoing assault on American norms, government, and democracy. These "Terrible 10", who for absurd reasons, decided for hundreds of millions of Americans to cede full control of the purse as well as the extent of Congress' enumerated Constitutional powers into the hands of a corrupt, authoritarian Trump and fascistic Elon Musk. Their excuse for abrogating their fiduciary responsibility to the American people to protect Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, veterans services, food programs, public education, housing assistance, citizenship rights, and more, was a concern for optics, that they would be blamed for the shutdown, as if that matters more than showing strength in the face of an existential threat to our Republic. This was a history vote, and the Terrible 10 voted historically wrong. The solution is obvious and should be inevitable. Chuck Schumer is not a leader fit for purpose, he is woefully out of step and must therefor either step down as minority leader or be drummed out by Democratic senators, with immediate effect. The Terrible 10 must also either step down from high-profile committee assignments or be deselected by the new minority leader, with immediate effect. In preparation for upcoming elections, the Terrible 10 must either announce they are not running for office, or the DNC and party leaders must identify strong candidates with proven track records of defending American democracy, institutions, and individual rights to primary members of the Terrible 10.
