I was raised as a compassionate conservative. I vote with my conscience, and have voted for people within both parties. My family prayed for the end of the HIV crisis when I was a girl. PEPFAR has saved 26 million lives around the world. In addition, the low cost of soft power cannot be underestimated. I learned that it only costs each family $9 a year to continue to fund USAID. With such an amazing dividend, in both the cost of human lives and in the prevention of war, Stop cutting funds to USAID. The proposal to dismantle this vital agency and terminate its thousands of local and American staff is alarming and counterproductive. The decision to dismantle USAID and terminate its entire workforce, including over 10,000 locally hired foreign nationals and hundreds of US diplomats and civil servants abroad, is deeply concerning. This agency has been instrumental in providing vital humanitarian aid, health programs, and development assistance to millions around the world for over six decades. Abruptly ending USAID's operations will not only disrupt crucial aid efforts in places like war-torn Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jordan, and the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, but also undermine America's global standing and soft power influence. While cost-cutting measures may be prudent, completely eliminating an agency with such a long-standing track record of promoting stability and American interests abroad seems misguided. I urge you to reconsider this drastic move and explore alternatives that preserve USAID's core functions and expertise. Continuing to fund essential foreign aid programs is not only the humanitarian course of action but also strategically beneficial for projecting American leadership on the world stage. A balanced approach that roots out any potential inefficiencies while maintaining USAID's positive global impact would be a more sensible path forward. I urge you to reconsider these cuts, and use your voice if you disagree. This isn't a right or left issue.
