No to removing language regarding bullying

To: Gov. Reynolds, Sen. Garriott, Rep. Judge

From: A constituent in Waukee, IA

March 20

What world are living in right now in Iowa? House File 865? Removing any of the language including “gender identity, sexuality, race, political belief and familial status” does absolutely nothing but invite harm to students. Why are they wanting to remove this language other than to invite bullying based off of those identifying words? I am absolutely horrified at what our state is becoming. Going after the AEA, undermining public schools, aiming for 504, attacking our LGBTQ+ students (a group with a suicide rate already twice as high as their peers) in any way the republicans can find, the list goes on and on. “We” (or Governor Reynolds) are so concerned about cell phone use in schools but let’s take steps to ramp up bullying in our buildings and on our playgrounds. Where is the logic? I am so disgusted at the direction this state is turning. For 50 years I have been a proud Iowan and loved this state, I was even a Republican for some of those years (quit that quickly after the tea party took over). I am losing that with every day that I wake up and see what area the leaders of this state feel they need to attack or dismantle next.
