The Trump administration’s dismantling of USAID, with Elon Musk’s involvement, is an illegal and dangerous attack on democracy. USAID has provided critical humanitarian aid for decades, and gutting it destabilizes global efforts and damages America’s reputation as a leader in international development (The Guardian, March 11, 2025).
This move also raises serious legal concerns. A federal judge ruled that Trump exceeded his constitutional authority by freezing nearly all U.S. humanitarian and development aid. Yet, his administration moved forward with eliminating 83% of USAID programs anyway, shifting the remaining 17% under the State Department (The Guardian, March 11, 2025). Such blatant disregard for the law erodes the checks and balances that protect our democracy.
Musk’s leadership in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) only worsens the problem. His explicit conflicts of interest and open hostility toward USAID have led to reckless decisions that ignore the agency’s mission and the lives that depend on it (The Guardian, March 11, 2025).
Congress, governors, and our state legislators must stand up and investigate these abuses, restore funding, and hold the Trump Administration and Elon Musk accountable.
Standing up for the U.S. Constitution, our Judiciary, and America is the right thing to do.
