Subject: Opposition to Executive Order Infringing on Libraries
Dear Representative,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the recent executive order that threatens the role and function of public libraries. The directive, in which the president ordered that government entities “be eliminated to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law,” and insisted they “reduce the performance of their statutory functions and associated personnel,” is an alarming attack on institutions that provide free and equitable access to information.
This order sets a dangerous precedent by allowing political interference in library collections, programming, and operations. Such actions contradict the fundamental principles of free inquiry and equal access to knowledge. Libraries must remain free from censorship and undue governmental control to fulfill their role as unbiased sources of information and learning.
I urge you to oppose and work toward reversing this order. Instead of restricting libraries, we should be investing in them—ensuring they remain well-funded, independent, and accessible to all. I ask that you stand with librarians, educators, and the public in protecting these essential institutions.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response on this matter.
Sincerely,
A concerned American citizen
