Advocating for Passenger Rail Service Between Colorado Springs, Denver, and DI

To: Rep. Bottoms, Sen. Lundeen, Gov. Polis

From: A verified voter in Colorado Springs, CO

March 7

I am writing to address the pressing issue of our state's failing rail infrastructure and to highlight the strong desire among Coloradans for expanded passenger train services, particularly between Colorado Springs, Denver, and Denver International Airport. Investing in passenger rail is crucial for meeting the needs of our growing population and creating a more efficient, sustainable transportation network for the future. Colorado has become one of the fastest-growing states in the nation, yet our transportation infrastructure has struggled to keep pace. Traffic congestion between Colorado Springs and Denver is a daily challenge, and with Denver International Airport serving as a major hub, there is an increasing need for a reliable, efficient, and eco-friendly means of travel. A passenger rail service linking these key cities would provide an affordable, fast, and sustainable alternative to driving or flying, reducing congestion on our highways and air traffic while lowering carbon emissions. Public support for expanded rail services is strong in Colorado, as residents see the clear benefits of a modern, integrated transportation system. Not only would this rail service improve mobility, but it would also stimulate economic growth by increasing access to job centers, businesses, and tourist destinations, while providing a boost to local economies along the route. Unfortunately, the growth of public transportation, especially rail, has often been hindered by lobbying from industries focused on automobiles and fossil fuels, which prioritize road expansion and car ownership over public transit. This has stifled the potential for developing effective, efficient public rail systems that meet the needs of the people. I urge you to support efforts to establish a passenger rail line between Colorado Springs, Denver, and Denver International Airport. Such an investment would have far-reaching benefits for the environment, the economy, and the quality of life for all Coloradans. It is time to prioritize the will of the people and build a transportation system that reflects our state’s growth and future needs.
