Challenge to Trump’s unlawful attack on federal workers’ bargaining rights.
To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

April 1
I am writing to express my strong opposition to President Trump’s March 27 executive order, which illegally strips collective bargaining rights from over one million federal workers under the guise of “national security.” This blatant attack on federal employees undermines their rights, destroys union contracts, and effectively shuts down grievance procedures—stripping workers of critical protections and due process.
Furthermore, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has instructed federal agencies to eliminate union rights, ignore legally binding agreements, and continue Trump’s Reduction in Force (RIF) order while disregarding contractually agreed-upon RIF requirements. This represents the most egregious attack on the labor movement in our country’s history and sets a dangerous precedent for the abuse of executive power.
As my elected representative, I urge you to take immediate action to challenge this unlawful and anti-worker maneuver. Congress must stand up to this overreach, protect federal employees’ rights, and ensure that collective bargaining agreements are honored. I call on you to demand accountability from the Trump administration and push for legislative action or legal recourse to overturn this unconstitutional order.
Federal employees dedicate their careers to serving this nation, and they deserve fair treatment, not unlawful suppression of their workplace rights. I expect you to stand with workers, unions, and all those who believe in the fundamental rights of collective bargaining and due process.
Please let me know how you plan to address this urgent matter. I appreciate your time and look forward to your response.
