Tonight, the Senate will begin voting on parts of a major spending bill and included in those negotiations is the alarming possibility of selling off America's public lands to offset tax cuts and government spending.
This reckless idea would set a dangerous precedent—treating our shared public lands like a piggy bank—and threatens the places where Americans get outside to climb, ski, hike, camp, bike, paddle, surf, and explore.
Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and John Hickenlooper (D-CO) have introduced an amendment that would prohibit the sale of public lands to pay for federal spending—a crucial countermeasure to stop the sale of public lands through the budget process. But they need backup from other Senators—and that's where you come in.
Please support the amendment to prohibit the sale of public land to pay for federal spending. Public lands belong to all of us, and once they are sold off, we can’t get them back.
