The Trump administration's rampant lawlessness and disregard for constitutional norms is unacceptable. By allowing the Republican spending bill to pass without extracting any concessions, Senator Schumer failed to leverage Congressional power to uphold the rule of law and rein in this presidency's excesses. I will not be giving any money to the Democratic party until Chuck Schumer has been replaced as the Senate leader. The Democratic party should have stood firm in opposition until the administration agreed to operate strictly within constitutional boundaries. Surrendering this leverage without a substantive commitment to respect governing norms enables further executive overreach and erosion of core democratic principles. Vigorous defense of the Constitution must take priority over temporary political maneuvering.
