Stand up for the rule of law and help those seeking asylum

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Khanna

From: A verified voter in Sunnyvale, CA

April 1

I am writing today to ask you to take any action possible to help Andry José Hernández Romero, a candidate for asylum in the US who was recently removed to a detention center in El Salvador with no due process, and many others in his situation. I understand that President Trump has different priorities in his immigration enforcement than President Biden did, and his ability to enforce those priorities is an inevitable result of his election as President. However, what is not inevitable is his propensity to ignore court orders and the rule of law in his actions. President Trump, like every president before him, must respect the law as passed by Congress and empowered by the constitution. When duly appointed judges restrict him from acting, he must not act. If members of Congress do not stand up and insist on respect for the rule of law and the Constitution’s separation of powers, we will find ourselves even further down the path to authoritarianism and dictatorship. Please stand up and be counted in resistance to this, and seek ways to help Mr. Hernandez Romero and others in his position who have legally sought asylum in our country.
