Halt destructive tariff escalations undermining American prosperity

March 21

Imposing steep tariffs on our closest trading partners like Canada and Mexico represents a reckless escalation of trade tensions that will directly harm American consumers and businesses. These retaliatory tariffs are nothing more than a tax on American families, driving up costs for essential goods like food, cars, and clothing. The trade disruptions caused by this misguided policy will also jeopardize hundreds of thousands of American jobs by raising production costs and fracturing critical supply chains. While the administration touts these tariffs as protecting American industries, initiating an unnecessary trade war with our allies clearly undermines economic growth and prosperity. Rather than unilaterally imposing blanket tariffs that lack Congressional oversight, we should pursue a coordinated multilateral approach that keeps trade free and fair while avoiding self-inflicted economic harm on American workers and consumers. I urge you to forcefully oppose these counterproductive tariffs and reign in the administration's abuse of emergency powers to bypass the Constitutional system of checks and balances. Prioritizing corporate interests over those of everyday Americans will only breed further economic uncertainty and erode our standing on the global stage. It is incumbent upon Congress to reassert its authority and put a stop to policies that so directly threaten the financial well-being of our constituents.
