I am writing again to see express my alarm. Recently the President invoked the alien enemies act to allow him to deport Venezuelans who allegedly were criminals. The alien enemies act however is expressly used when our country is being invaded. To my surprise and others, I am unaware that Venezuela invaded our country! A Federal Judge could find no evidence to support that these individuals were criminals and declared this act unconstitutional as this act violates due process. The President has indicated he does not feel he should have to follow due process and the Justice Department has refused to provide information to the courts. This should frighten you and the rest of us. The rule of law is the very foundation of our constitution and our democracy! Without the rule of law, we are no longer a democracy. No one knows who were on the planes to El Salvador. If the President can invoke the alien enemies act to deport whomever, no one is safe. A student activist ( non- violent) who was in our country legally has also been deported. A young Hispanic girl needing cancer treatment was deported who was here legally. How is this great? Will you keep your oath to the constitution and speak out on the assault on our democracy? Our economy is sliding into a recession. The stock market is plummeting! The President continues trade wars with Canada, Mexico, Columbia, Europe and China. Is this great? Doge is cutting social security staff while also closing offices making it harder for seniors to access their benefits and forcing seniors to wait in long lines. Is the point to make it harder for seniors to access benefits? Do you think this is great? Doge is planning to cut Medicaid, Medicare as well claiming fraud. Yet doge has yet to present a shred of evidence of fraud despite the oversight committee asking for this. If there is evidence of fraud, why not produce it? The department of education is being cut which hurts Oklahoma since we receive a lot of funding that helps Oklahoma. Do you think this is great? Farmers, teachers, VA employees, IRS employees, FAA employees and now postal employees are out of work. Many of these federal employees are veterans who are now out of work. Is this great? Exactly how are tariffs, gutting of federal government, slashing our benefits, destroying our rule of law, alienating other countries, aligning with Russia, making air travel unsafe, our nuclear stock pile unsafe and pardoning insurrectionists great? The only people better off are billionaires who are getting huge tax cuts at the expense of the rest of us per this recent budget. Great for whom? Not us! History remembers those who speak up and fight against tyranny- not those who are complicit.
