I urge you to oppose and fight against HB285 "Generally Revise Montana Environmental Policy Act (MEPA)”. This bill would repeal environmental regulations so the state does not have to require environmental reviews for long-term impacts of harmful projects and allows the state to not measure climate pollution (carbon emissions) from activities like coal mining.
Why it's bad: Montana has constitutional protections to a "clean and healthful environment…" This bill and bills like these undermine the core purpose of Montana's famous beloved environmental laws meant to protect air, land and water from the destruction corporations havoc with fast-track big polluting projects. This is the kind of stuff that sets us back to the days of the coal barons. We refuse to go back.
As your constituent and fellow human being whose descendants must one day share this planet with yours, I urge you to take action against this bill and others of its kind that seek to weaken our environmental rights and protections.
Your Constituent,
