We’ll Support You—But Only If You Fight for Us

congress I’m writing to you not as a political adversary, but as a deeply disappointed constituent who has, for years, believed in the promise of a Democratic Party that would stand for working people, democracy, and the public good. That belief is being tested. I recently read a detailed article about the corporate law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison—long considered part of the Democratic establishment—capitulating to Donald Trump in a moment that called for resistance. Rather than fight back against a blatantly illegal executive order, the firm, once central to the progressive legal movement, folded in exchange for continued access and profit. They abandoned diversity programs, pledged loyalty to Trump-aligned causes, and revealed a deeper truth: too much of the Democratic apparatus has become more comfortable protecting corporate clients than defending democracy. What’s worse is that this surrender came without significant outcry from elected Democrats. Instead of raising hell, we got silence. Meanwhile, we—the voters—are growing angrier by the day. Democratic approval among Democratic voters is plummeting. Town halls are boiling over. People are showing up not with hope, but with fury. And unless something changes, that fury will only grow. We don’t want more cautious politics. We don’t want centrist language to appease donors. We don’t want another round of “both sides” analysis. We want a fight. We need you to break with the precedent of timidity and triangulation. We need you to reject the quiet, comfortable deal-making that has defined Democratic power for decades. We need boldness, clarity, and courage. If the legal backbone of the Democratic establishment is going to bend the knee to an authoritarian—you must not. You are elected by the people. And right now, the people are demanding something different: a politics that fights back. A politics that stands up for everyday Americans, not billionaires and monopolies. A politics that isn’t afraid to name oligarchy and confront it head-on. Bernie Sanders and others are pointing the way, and the crowds are growing. You’ll have our support—but only if you fight for us. If you stand up—for democracy, for decency, for working people—we’ll be there with you. But if you continue to speak cautiously while the country veers toward authoritarianism and corporate domination, you’ll lose us. This is the moment. Choose courage.
