Congressional disapproval of the proposed $661 million foreign military sale to Israel of munitions is warranted. This sale includes 2,166 small diameter bombs, thousands of 500-lb and 2,000-lb bombs, and over 17,000 bomb fuzes. Providing such a large quantity of explosive munitions will enable disproportionate force and civilian casualties in violation of international humanitarian law. Additionally, weapons transfers to the region fuel escalating violence and instability. As a broker of peace, the U.S. should promote diplomacy and human rights rather than arms dealing. I urge you to support this resolution of disapproval and block a sale that undermines efforts towards a just resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
