From: A verified voter in Trexlertown, PA

March 26

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the Executive Order titled Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections, issued on March 25, 2025. While the aim of protecting the integrity of our elections is vital, this executive order raises serious concerns about its constitutionality and potential for federal overreach. Separation of Powers & State Rights: The Constitution grants states the primary responsibility for overseeing elections. The federal government’s role is to ensure that states comply with constitutional protections. However, this Executive Order threatens to undermine the balance of powers by imposing federal mandates on state-run election systems, particularly regarding voter registration and the enforcement of citizenship verification. The order’s sweeping directives could lead to unwarranted federal intervention in what should remain a state function. Potential Erosion of Voting Rights: The Executive Order places new burdens on voter registration processes, including requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship, which could create barriers for eligible voters, especially in marginalized communities. Additionally, the order’s directives for voter list purging could result in the disenfranchisement of eligible voters, undermining the democratic principle that all citizens should have an equal right to participate in elections. Potential for Discrimination and Voter Suppression: While combating voter fraud is important, the measures proposed in the order risk infringing on citizens’ rights. The enforcement mechanisms outlined could disproportionately impact low-income and minority voters, raising concerns about discrimination and voter suppression—issues that the Constitution seeks to address through protections against racial discrimination and equal access to the ballot box. Constitutional Concerns: The Constitution entrusts Congress with the authority to regulate elections, not the Executive branch. The expansion of federal authority through this Executive Order could set a dangerous precedent, allowing for further erosion of state rights and oversight. This order could lead to a cascade of future executive actions that bypass the legislative process, circumventing the Constitution’s checks and balances. I urge you to reject this Executive Order in order to preserve the integrity of our elections, protect citizens’ rights, and maintain the separation of powers enshrined in our Constitution. The path forward must involve a careful, bipartisan approach that respects both state sovereignty and the fundamental right of every eligible voter to participate in our democracy. Thank you for considering my concerns. I trust you will act in defense of our constitutional rights.
