Preserve the Department of Education

To: Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Smucker, Sen. McCormick

From: A verified voter in East Earl, PA

March 8

The administration's plan to dismantle the Department of Education is deeply concerning and will have far-reaching negative consequences for students across the country. This department plays a crucial role in ensuring equal access to education, supporting students from low-income backgrounds, students with disabilities, and promoting academic standards. Eliminating it would deprive millions of young Americans of vital resources and opportunities. Funding programs that assist underprivileged students and those with special needs have existed long before the department's creation in 1979. Abolishing the department risks jeopardizing these critical programs and leaving vulnerable populations without essential support systems. Furthermore, the department oversees policies and initiatives aimed at improving education quality and outcomes nationwide. Its absence would lead to a fragmented approach, exacerbating existing disparities across states and school districts. I urge you to take a stand against this misguided effort and work towards preserving and strengthening the Department of Education. Our nation's future depends on an educated populace, and dismantling this agency would be a disservice to generations of Americans. Instead of elimination, the focus should be on addressing any inefficiencies within the department while maintaining its core mission of promoting equal educational opportunities for all.
