Oppose HJ Res 59 overturning CFPB's overdraft rule
To: Rep. Lieu
From: A verified voter in Los Angeles, CA
March 28
I am writing to urge you to oppose H.J. Res. 59 (Hill) and any efforts to overturn the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) overdraft fee rule. This rule will reduce most overdraft fees from $35 to $5, end manipulative practices by big banks, and put $5 billion back into the pockets of everyday families.
The rule closes a loophole that allowed large banks to profit off vulnerable consumers by charging excessive overdraft fees. It will save households an average of $225 annually and provide safer, more transparent overdraft options. Importantly, it only affects large banks with over $10 billion in assets, leaving smaller banks and credit unions unaffected.
Please stand with consumers and oppose H.J. Res. 59.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
