The Department of Health and Human Services' decision to lay off thousands of workers across its agencies is a concerning move that undermines its ability to provide essential services and support for vulnerable populations, particularly children with disabilities. After the effective dismantling of the Department of Education, these families were reassured that HHS would step in to fill the void and ensure their children receive the care and resources they need. However, reducing the workforce directly contradicts this promise and jeopardizes the well-being of those most in need of assistance. This callous disregard for the welfare of children with disabilities is unacceptable. HHS must uphold its commitment to serving all citizens, especially the most vulnerable among us, by preserving its workforce and bolstering support systems rather than stripping them away.
