SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE

I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent regarding the future of Social Security, an essential program that millions of Americans, including retirees, individuals with disabilities, and their families, depend on for financial stability. Social Security represents a promise made to the American people—a promise that after years of hard work and contributing to the system, they will have a safety net to support them in their later years or during times of disability. For many retirees, Social Security is the primary source of income that helps them meet basic needs such as housing, food, and medical care. Likewise, individuals with disabilities and their families rely on the program to maintain a standard of living amidst significant challenges. Without Social Security, millions of Americans would face financial devastation. The ongoing threats to defund or undermine the Social Security Administration (SSA) are deeply troubling. Such actions do not just jeopardize the program itself but also harm the very people who have funded this vital agency through a lifetime of payroll taxes. It is unacceptable to break this trust, particularly for a program that has remained a cornerstone of economic security for nearly 90 years. Instead of cutting resources, we must increase funding for the SSA. Years of inadequate budgets have left the agency unable to adequately meet the needs of the American people. Severe staff shortages, lengthy backlogs in processing claims, and limited access to assistance have made it difficult for individuals to receive timely and effective support. By allocating more resources to the SSA, we can hire additional staff, reduce backlogs, and ensure that this vital agency operates efficiently and effectively. Social Security is not just a financial program; it is a reflection of our nation’s values and commitment to caring for one another. I urge you to take a stand to protect and strengthen Social Security by opposing any efforts to defund or weaken the program and by advocating for increased funding to enhance its operations. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I trust that you will represent the interests of your constituents by supporting this vital program.
