The IRS plays a critical role in the functioning of our government and economy by collecting revenue and processing tax returns for millions of Americans. The reckless actions taken by DOGE under the guise of "rooting out waste and fraud" are severely undermining the agency's operations and threatening its ability to carry out its congressionally-mandated duties. Cutting nearly 20% of IRS staff and closing over 100 taxpayer assistance centers during tax season will inevitably lead to major disruptions in customer service, longer wait times, and processing delays that will directly impact taxpayers. Furthermore, the attempts by DOGE to gain unauthorized access to confidential taxpayer data and systems raise alarming privacy concerns and potential legal violations. Using this sensitive information to target immigrant communities is discriminatory and violates the IRS' strict confidentiality rules. The purported rationale of finding undocumented immigrants does not justify compromising the integrity of our tax system. I urge you to take immediate action to rein in DOGE's overreach at the IRS. Their disruptive actions are doing far more harm than good by paralyzing an essential government agency and jeopardizing the rights of taxpayers. Responsible oversight and measured reforms would be more prudent than the chaos currently unfolding. The IRS must be allowed to properly function for the benefit of all Americans during this critical tax season period.
