The Trump administration’s interference in two major housing discrimination cases in Texas—one in Dallas, the other in Houston—is unacceptable and un-American. As ProPublica (March 27, 2025) reported, HUD officials overruled their own investigators who found that local housing authorities had discriminated against Black and Latino residents. Instead of enforcing civil rights law, the agency shut down the cases without action.
This is not a policy disagreement—it’s a deliberate choice to ignore evidence of racism and deny justice to the people most harmed by it.
I don’t expect much from our Republican federal representatives, many of whom continue to fall in line with Trump no matter the cost to their constituents.
To our state leaders: please do whatever is in your power to hold this administration accountable. Whether it’s a public statement, legal challenge, or working with advocacy groups—inaction is complicity.
We live in a democracy, not an authoritarian state. Government agencies must not be used to shield discrimination or silence the truth.
