From what I understand, Elon Musk (now publicly identified by Donald Trump as the head of DOGE) met separately with Republican senators and House Republicans recently regarding his cuts to the federal government.
According to multiple sources, Musk handed out his phone number so that U.S. elected representatives can call him directly with questions or concerns regarding his cuts to the federal government.
How is this possibly ethical or legal? The U.S. Constitution clearly states that Congress alone has the power to make appropriations and pass laws to decide how money is spent (our tax money). So now you’re picking up the phone and calling Elon Musk to beg him to fund the federal government or rehire folks overseeing our nuclear stockpile?
What exactly is your job now? And why exactly does this initiative only involve Republicans?
You do realize that these job and funding cuts directly impact everyone in the U.S., regardless of how they vote? You do realize that this state is not just full of Republicans. It also includes folks who are too young or unable to vote. It includes veterans, disabled folks, grandparents in nursing homes, people on SNAP and WIC. Small business owners. These cuts directly impact them, too.
Please do something to help stop the gutting of funds that directly impact your constituents - Head Start, education, medical research, Medicaid, Social Security, the list goes on. You want to trim the budget? Absolutely – we all need to limit our spending. You trim the budget by analyzing the budget and making smart decisions, not hacking the budget with Elon Musk’s Tweets, theatrical chainsaw and sunglasses.
He doesn’t own you. You don’t serve him. You serve us. Your constituents.
