Reject discriminatory HB 3399, protect transgender healthcare access

To: Lt. Gov. Patrick, Rep. Frank, Gov. Abbott, Sen. Perry

From: A verified voter in Burkburnett, TX

March 5

Gender affirming care is endorsed by major medical associations as safe, effective, and often medically necessary treatment for gender dysphoria. Denying access to this vital care will cause immense harm to the transgender community, including increased risks of depression, anxiety, suicide attempts, substance abuse, and societal marginalization. Furthermore, it interferes with the doctor-patient relationship and violates personal freedom by preventing consenting adults from obtaining legally available medical treatments based solely on their gender identity. From both a human rights and a public health perspective, I urge you to reject HB 3399. It undermines the wellbeing of a vulnerable population without any demonstrable benefits. Gender affirming care dramatically improves mental health outcomes and quality of life for transgender people. We the People have elected you to protect all Texans' access to ethical, evidence-based healthcare free from discrimination. Opposing this discriminatory bill is both compassionate and in the best interests of all Texans. Thank you for your consideration.
