Halt inhumane treatment of ill child and family deportation
To: Rep. Maloy, Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
March 22
Stop the mass deportations and start caring about humans. The forced removal of this family, including U.S. citizen children in need of urgent medical care, is a gross violation of human rights and dignity. Deporting a 10-year-old girl recovering from brain surgery, denying her access to critical follow-up treatment, and subjecting the entire family to inhumane conditions in detention demonstrates a callous disregard for people's wellbeing. This case exemplifies the immense harm caused by draconian immigration policies that prioritize deportations over compassion. Families should not be torn apart, children should not be denied medical care, and human beings should not be subjected to abusive treatment, regardless of immigration status. This family posed no threat and was simply trying to get their child the life-saving care she needs. We call on immigration authorities to immediately allow this family to re-enter the United States and provide the children, especially the 10-year-old girl, with full access to necessary medical treatment. Subjecting a child recovering from brain surgery to detention, then deporting her without continued care, is unconscionably cruel. This disturbing case underscores the pressing need to overhaul an immigration system that has lost its moral bearings. Deportation quotas and enforcement priorities must be realigned with the core values of human rights, family unity, and human dignity.
