I am writing to both state and federal officials because too many in my state seem unwilling to challenge Trump or his loyalists, regardless of the harm they are doing to our democracy. If you’re a state official, please think of any ways you can help our democracy in these unprecedented times.
Pam Bondi’s latest threats against Representative Jasmine Crockett for simply criticizing Elon Musk are unacceptable and dangerous. Telling an elected member of Congress to “tread very carefully” for advocating a peaceful economic response is nothing short of intimidation (Fox News, March 23, 2025). This is not how democracy functions, and it is not how any Attorney General or public servant should conduct themselves.
Bondi’s bullying is not new. During her confirmation hearing, she refused to answer critical questions and accused senators of trying to “bully” her when they pressed her on impartiality and her role in spreading misinformation about the 2020 election (New York Post, January 15, 2025). This continued pattern of using threats and deflection to silence dissent raises serious concerns about her commitment to democratic norms.
Additionally, her threats to sue states over transgender sports policies (Politico, February 25, 2025) show she is more focused on pushing an ideological agenda than protecting the rights of all Americans.
It’s time to take a stand. You must speak out against Bondi’s abuses of power. Remaining silent while authoritarian tactics like this go unchecked is a betrayal of your oath to uphold our Constitution and protect the public. Hold Bondi accountable. Our democracy depends on it.
