This proposal to criminalize the "unlawful disposal of fetal remains" seems like an unnecessary overreach of federal power into a personal health issue. There are already regulations in place for proper medical waste disposal by healthcare facilities. Criminalizing this could lead to unintended consequences like women facing legal jeopardy for a miscarriage or being forced to pay for funerary services against their wishes after an abortion. Rather than create new criminal offenses, efforts would be better focused on improving access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare and supporting families. Unless there is clear evidence of a widespread problem requiring federal action, this appears to be a solution in search of a problem. I urge you to reject this bill and instead prioritize policies that truly improve lives.
