The Trump administration’s reckless decision to block critical NIH funding for research into the public health impacts of climate change is a blatant attack on American communities and public safety (ProPublica, March 24, 2025). This move is not just shortsighted; it’s dangerous. The evidence is clear—climate change is already fueling deadly heatwaves, worsening air quality, and driving disease outbreaks across the country. Yet the administration would rather play politics than protect Americans from the very real and growing threats we face.
By rejecting these research funds, the administration is deliberately silencing science and undermining the very tools we need to save lives. Communities in states like Texas, Florida, and California are already grappling with extreme weather, rising sea levels, and worsening health outcomes due to climate-related disasters. Denying research into these impacts means leaving millions vulnerable to preventable suffering and death. This is not just a policy disagreement; this is an attack on our future. Every credible scientific institution, including the CDC and the World Health Organization, has warned that climate change poses one of the most serious public health threats of our time. Blocking this research will make our nation weaker, sicker, and more unprepared for the challenges ahead.
I am demanding that you, as my elected representatives, stand up against this administration’s war on science and public health. Push for immediate action to restore these funds and hold those responsible accountable. We will not sit quietly while lives are endangered for political gain.
