Investigate every member of the SignalGate breach and demand accountability.

To: Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden, Rep. Dexter

From: A constituent in Portland, OR

March 29

Hours ahead of the US attack on the Houthis, Pete Hegseth texted the timeline of the planned attack to 17 people on a Signal chat - one of whom turned out to be the Editor of the Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg. At the end of his “team update,” Hegseth wrote “We are ’urrently clean on OPSEC.” The incompetence would be laughable if it wasn’t so dangerous. Anyone who’s ever thrown a surprise party has observed better operational security than the Secretary of Defense. None of the people included in this intelligence breach - Which we know includes cabinet members Pete Hegseth, Mike Waltz, J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio, Tulsi Gabbard, Scott Bessent and Steve Witkoff as well as administration members Stephen Miller and Susie Wiles and even counterterrorism nominee Joe Kent - should be allowed anywhere near government secrets - or the government - again. How many other operations have already been put at risk by this kind of lazy and careless behavior? We need an investigation to get to the botto’ of this and ensure that it doesn’t happen again. We need you to do everything in your power to ensure accountability.
