Ensure Congressional oversight over government spending cuts

To: Sen. Mullin, Rep. Hern, Sen. Lankford

From: A verified voter in Tulsa, OK

March 6

The efforts by Senate Republicans to codify the spending cuts proposed by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are concerning. While identifying wasteful spending is a worthy goal, DOGE's actions have sparked significant public backlash and disruptions due to their overreach in eliminating government programs and jobs without proper oversight or regard for essential services. The Supreme Court's recent ruling against the White House's attempt to withhold payments from foreign aid organizations underscores the need for Congressional involvement and adherence to proper legislative processes. Circumventing these processes through unilateral executive actions would be an abuse of power. I urge you to exercise caution and restraint in granting any broad authority to DOGE or enabling its unchecked actions. Responsible governance demands transparency, accountability, and respect for the separation of powers. Hasty spending cuts without thorough vetting and legislative scrutiny risk causing unintended harm to vital programs and services that serve the public interest. Any proposed spending reductions should undergo rigorous Congressional review and adhere to established legislative procedures. This ensures that the impacts are fully considered, and that essential government functions are preserved. Unilateral executive overreach, no matter the stated intentions, undermines the democratic principles upon which our nation is founded.
