I am writing to express my continued shock at the absence of accountability for the Cabinet-level participants in the Signal chat thread that leaked classified information concerning the military strike on the Houthis in Yemen.
Those involved knowingly shared classified information, using a known-to-be-unsecure network, that put in danger the military personnel involved in the attack. Those involved committed felonies. They seriously compromised our national security.
They then perjured themselves before Congress regarding that Signal conversation. They are an ongoing threat to our military and our nation. Why have they not been removed from office? Why have they not been charged with these serious crimes?
The Espionage Act criminalizes the disclosure of national secrets through gross negligence. Such a conversation, via an app known to be easily hackable, using unsecured personal cell phones, outside a SCIF, is the definition of “gross negligence.”
How many other such conversations have occurred? How many more will occur in the future? Will service members die next time because of that gross negligence?
Please do everything in your power remove them from their positions as soon as possible. Please have them arrested. Immediately.
