I'm writing to express grave concerns about the executive order signed to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and defund museums across the United States. Museums and libraries provide invaluable cultural, educational, and economic benefits that enrich communities nationwide. The IMLS represents a tiny 0.0046% of the federal budget yet delivers immense value - museums alone generate $50 billion in economic impact annually. Eliminating this critical funding would put countless jobs, educational programs, and vital community services at risk. There is overwhelming public support for museums, with 96% of Americans favoring maintained or increased funding according to the American Alliance of Museums. I urge you to reconsider this misguided order that directly contradicts the will of the people and recognize the immense societal value provided by museums and libraries. Preserving funding for these beloved institutions is crucial for fostering knowledge, connection and economic growth nationwide.
